Sign a PDF online, free. The file stays on your device.
Sign a PDF free with a KuduDoc Personal account: open it, draw, type or upload your signature, place it and download the signed file. It all happens in your browser, so the PDF is not uploaded. It is an ordinary electronic signature, and one tap saves and seals it in your Library.

How to sign a PDF for free
Six steps, all in your browser. The PDF leaves your device only if you choose to save or send it.
-
Sign in
Sign in to KuduDoc, or create a free Personal account: no card and no expiry date.
-
Open the PDF
Drop it on the page or choose it from your files. It opens in your browser; nothing is uploaded. Need to join or shrink PDFs first? Merge, split or compress it in the same account.
-
KuduDoc reads it first
If it recognises a document that must be signed in ink, it says so and stops.
-
Make your signature
Draw it, type your name and pick a style, or upload a photo of it.
-
Place it
Tap where it goes, then drag and resize. Add your initials — on every page in one step — the date or a line of text.
-
Download the signed PDF
It is saved on your device, with your signature written into the page.
Signature maker: draw, type or upload
Draw it with a finger, mouse or stylus. Type your name in one of four handwriting styles. Or upload a photo of your signature on paper: the maker turns the paper transparent and trims the edges.
Download it as a PNG with a transparent background, for a Word document or an email, or sign a PDF with it straight away.
An image of your signature becomes an electronic signature when you add it to a document intending it as your signature. Anyone holding the image can paste it too, so send signed documents, not the image.
Your PDF stays on your device
- Your browser opens the PDF and makes the signed copy. The PDF is not uploaded, and KuduDoc receives nothing from it, not even its name.
- The check for documents that must be signed in ink runs in your browser too.
- Signing in is logged like any sign-in: the time and your network address. Nothing about your PDF is.
- Your signature is kept only if you tick Remember my signature on this device, and then only in this browser. Forget it any time.
- KuduDoc adds no watermark, no link back and nothing about you to the file.
- The PDF leaves your device only if you choose Save and seal or Send, and then it goes to your own KuduDoc Library.
What kind of signature this is
This PDF already carries a digital signature. Adding yours rewrites the file, so a PDF reader reports that the document changed after it was signed. If someone must sign after a digital signature, ask the sender how they want it signed.
Check the digital signatures in a PDF
A KuduDoc signature is an ordinary electronic signature.
KuduDoc will not add a signature to a will, a sale of land, a lease of land for more than 20 years, a bill of exchange or a suretyship. Sign those in ink.
Whoever receives the document may ask for ink, so check before you sign.
This tool keeps no record of who signed or when. When that may matter later, send the document for signature from a KuduDoc account: each signer’s steps are recorded, and the finished PDF is sealed.
Documents to sign in ink
Before you sign, this tool checks the document. It won’t add your signature to one it recognises as one of these four.
This reads like a sale of land, such as an offer to purchase or a deed of sale. KuduDoc will not add your signature to it. Print it and sign it on paper.
The check reads wording, not meaning, and can be wrong.
This looks like it contains a suretyship. Sign the suretyship in ink.
The same check warns you, about a suretyship, an affidavit, an antenuptial contract or other notarial deed, and a lease of 10 years or more. It reads English wording, not meaning, so it can miss a document or flag one wrongly. See which documents need ink.
Sign it yourself, keep it, or send it
All three work in your KuduDoc account, on every plan. Personal is free, with no card and no expiry date.

The copy you download isn’t sealed: KuduDoc keeps no record of it until you save it. When other people need to sign, send it for signature instead.
Keep it and seal it
One step after the download puts the signed PDF in your Library, sealed, with a record anyone can check a copy against.
-
Choose Save and seal
After you download. Saving is not a send, so it does not use one of Personal’s 5 sends.
-
It goes to your Library
Your signed PDF goes to your Library. This is the one step where it leaves your device, because you chose it.
-
KuduDoc seals it
A SHA-256 fingerprint, a certification signature, a timestamp anchor and a seal id — what a KuduDoc seal records. The sealed PDF is a new file; send that one.
-
Anyone can check a copy
Anyone can check a copy of the sealed PDF free, with no account.
A match means unchanged since sealing — a fact about the file’s bytes, not about what the document says, who signed it or who owns anything.
- End dates. If it has an end date, KuduDoc reminds you before it: 90, 60, 30 and 7 days before, by default — or the days you choose.
- Only need a dated record of the file? Timestamp the signed PDF, free: only its fingerprint is sent.
Questions people ask
Is it really free?
Yes, with a free KuduDoc Personal account: no card and no expiry date. Sign in, open a PDF, sign it and download it. There is no watermark and no limit on how many PDFs you sign yourself, and signing yourself or saving to your Library does not use one of Personal’s 5 sends a month.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Your browser opens the PDF, adds your signature and saves the signed copy on your device. KuduDoc receives nothing from the document, not even its name, unless you choose to save it to your Library. The check for documents that must be signed in ink runs in your browser too.
Can I sign a will or an offer to purchase a house with this tool?
No. KuduDoc will not send a will, a sale of land, a lease of land for more than 20 years or a bill of exchange for electronic signature. This tool reads the document first and won’t add your signature to one it recognises as one of these: sign it in ink. It reads English wording, not meaning, so it can be wrong.
Is the signed PDF sealed? Can someone check it?
Not the copy you download. KuduDoc keeps no record of it and adds no seal or digital signature, so there is nothing to check it against. Choose Save and seal and KuduDoc seals it in your Library: a SHA-256 fingerprint, a certification signature, a timestamp anchor and a seal id. Anyone can then check a copy of the sealed PDF free.
Can I make a signature to use in Word or an email?
Yes. The signature maker in your KuduDoc account lets you draw your signature with a finger, mouse or stylus, type your name in one of four handwriting styles, or upload a photo of your signature on paper, which it cleans up. Download it as a PNG with a transparent background. Your browser can remember it if you ask; KuduDoc does not keep it.
Can I sign a PDF on my phone for free?
Yes, with a free Personal account. The tool works in the browser on Android phones and iPhones, so there is no app to install. Sign in, open the PDF from your phone’s files or downloads, draw your signature with your finger, place it and download the signed PDF. It stays on your phone.
What if other people need to sign it too?
Send it for signature from the same account instead. Place the fields, invite up to 3 signers by email, and KuduDoc reminds whoever is still to sign. Each signer’s steps are recorded, and the finished PDF is sealed. Personal includes 5 sends a month, with no card and no expiry date.
